    Borrow up to 10 used books at a time with unlimited swaps. Free Delivery once a month. Return books within 3 months for other families to use and enjoy.

  • Used Book and Homeschool Library Membership – $15/month (Coming Soon)
    Borrow up to 10 used books and/or homeschool curriculum with unlimited swaps. Free Delivery once a month. Return books within 6 months and homeschool curriculum within 9 months for other families to use and enjoy.

  • Unlimited Membership – $25/month (Coming Soon)
    No max borrow limit. Access to used book and homeschool curriculum collections with unlimited swaps. Free delivery 2x a month. Return books and curriculum within 9 months for other families to use and enjoy.

  • Kids go through books quickly. A monthly membership gives your family access to many more books for a fraction of the cost of buying new.

  • We carry books featured on curriculum book lists from Five in a Row, Sonlight Beautiful Feet Books, Math With Confidence, Treehouse Story School Preschool, and The Curious Kinder. We also carry selections from Sarah Mackenzie’s Read-Aloud Revival book lists, along with titles suited for a wide range of unit studies.

  • If your child falls in love with a book, purchase it at 60% off MSRP. Build a home library with books you already know your child enjoys.

  • Borrowing used books keeps stories in circulation and reduces waste. Your membership supports reuse, sustainability, and a local children’s bookshop.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I keep borrowed books?
For Used Book Members books must be returned within 3 months of borrowing. Used Book and Homeschool Members must return books within 6 months. Unlimited plan members must return books within 9 months.

How long can I keep borrowed homeschool curriculum?

Homeschool curriculum must be returned within 9 months of borrowing. You will receive a reminder before the return deadline.

What if I fall in love with a book I borrowed?
Members can purchase any borrowed book for 60% off the original MSRP, while supplies last. Fill out our Used Book Order Form if you would like make a purchase.

What if I need to hold onto a book any longer?
We recommend purchasing a book if you want to hold onto it longer than the 3-9 months based on your membership. However, you do have the option to renew a book if there are no holds on it.

Can I donate books to the used book collection?
Yes! Donate books and homeschool curriculum in very good to like-new condition and receive cash or store credit, plus 25% off your next purchase and one month of free membership. All donations are reviewed before being added to our collection.

Do members receive free delivery?
Yes! Members receive one free delivery per month within our delivery zone. Members on the Unlimited Plan enjoy two free deliveries per month.

What happens if books are not returned after 9 months?
If books are not returned by the 6-month deadline, you will be invoiced for 60% of the book’s MSRP.

What happens if a book is damaged?
Because our books are pre-loved, minor wear and tear is expected. If a book is returned with tears or markings that make it difficult to read, a $3 damage fee for books and $5 damage fee for curriculum will apply, or members may choose to purchase and keep the book for 60% off MSRP.

What happens if I cancel or pause my membership?
If a family cancels or pauses their membership, all borrowed books must be returned within 14 days.

How It Works

Once you register and pay for a membership, we will create a patron account for you on the Bright Lantern Children’s Bookshop Libib site, where you can:

  1. View all available books in our Used Book and Homeschool Collections.

  2. Browse or Search for a book. Click on the book cover and hit checkout to add to your cart.

  3. View your cart and click ‘complete’ when ready to checkout. Make sure you are logged into your account.

  4. Your books will be available for pick up or delivery in 1-2 business days.

  5. Email meredith@brightlanternbookshop.com or fill out Member Library Return Request Form to let us know you are ready to return books. Follow instructions to return books.

We offer free pickup from our business address (located at Steep Rock Drive, Willow Spring, NC) or ONE free delivery per month or TWICE a month for Unlimited Members (if you are in our delivery zone). Additional deliveries are $5 or free with a $25 purchase from our online shop.

You’re welcome to swap books at any time during the month, as long as you stay within your membership’s book limit.
